Dodge City Community College confirmed Friday that an instructor and a student died in a midair collision on October 1st in Chandler, Arizona.

DCCC operates its Flight Instructor Program at the Chandler Municipal Airport, near where the crash occurred.

Officials said that around 9:30 a.m. on October 1st, a helicopter crashed after colliding midair with a single-engine plane. Both occupants of the helicopter died. The plane, meanwhile, landed safely at an airport, with no one onboard requiring medical attention.

Instructor Jessica Brandal and student Michael Papendick were killed in the crash.
