Around 1:10 a.m. Saturday morning, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment rescinded the Boil Water Advisory for the City of Wichita.

The advisory was issued because of a loss of pressure in the distribution system after a brief power outage, causing a major water main to break near I-135 ad 17th Street North on Thursday.

The cancellation of the Boil Water Advisory applies to any customer that receives a water bill from the City of Wichita, including customers in the cities of Andover, Eastborough, and Maize.

Lab testing samples collected from the City of Wichita indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.

The boil water advisory remains in place for the following wholesale customers of the City of Wichita: Sedgwick County RWDs 1, 2 and 3; the Cities of Benton, Rose Hill, Derby (El Paso Water Co.), Kechi, Valley Center; and McConnell AFB.

A press conference is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 9th, to provide updates.
