2022 economic forecast sees job growth for Wichita area

2022 economic forecast sees job growth for Wichita area

The Wichita economy is expected to add more than 3,100 jobs next year, while the state of Kansas adds 13,401 jobs.   That’s according to a recently-released forecast from Wichita State University and its Center for Economic Development and Business Research.

The service sectors will lead job growth in 2022, adding more than 1,800 jobs for a growth rate of 1.3 percent.   The trade, transportation and utilities sectors will increase by over 400 jobs, an expansion of 0.9 percent.   The production sectors will add about 400 jobs for growth of 1.1 percent, and the government sector will add 100 jobs.   Overall, job growth for the Wichita area will be 1.1 percent.

Kansas will see its greatest growth in service sector jobs, adding around 2,200 for growth of 1.3 percent.  The production sectors will add more than 2,300 jobs, for growth of 1 percent.  The trade, transportation and utilities sectors will add over 2,200 jobs for growth of 0.8 percent, and the government sector will increase by 0.2 percent.  Overall, the Kansas economy will see growth of 1 percent for 2022.
