Boil water advisory lifted for Sedgwick County Rural Water District 2

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted the boil water advisory that was in effect for Sedgwick County Rural Water District No. 2.   This was the only remaining advisory in effect after a water main break in north Wichita on October 7th.

A boil water advisory was lifted for the city of Wichita on Saturday morning, and other advisories were lifted Sunday for Rural Water Districts 1 and 3, along with McConnell Air Force Base, Derby, Benton, Kechi, Valley Center and Rose Hill.

The advisories were put into effect because of a loss of pressure in the water distribution system, caused by a brief power outage at Wichita’s water treatment plant.  A loss of pressure creates a risk of bacterial contamination.    No traces of contamination were found in testing of water samples.

Crews spent the weekend repairing a 42-inch water main that ruptured near I-135 and 17th Street North.   There was still some activity at the site Monday afternoon but it appears the repair work has been completed.
