Wichita lawmaker pleads no contest in DUI case

Former Kansas Senate Majority Leader Gene Suellentrop of Wichita has pleaded no contest to charges related to a DUI traffic stop in Topeka last spring.

Suellentrop appeared in Shawnee County District Court Monday morning and entered the pleas to charges of drunk driving and reckless driving.  He was then found guilty by District Judge Jason Geier.   Suellentrop will serve 48 hours in the Shawnee County jail and then serve 12 months of probation.   All other charges were dropped.

Suellentrop was arrested on March 16th, 2021 after KHP troopers saw him speeding the wrong way on Interstate 70.
