Wichita man sentenced in fatal 2017 stabbing

A judge has sentenced a Wichita man to life in prison for a fatal stabbing in 2017.

25-year-old Umar Dutt pleaded guilty in September to felony first degree murder, and his sentencing was held Tuesday in Sedgwick County District Court.

Dutt was arrested after the death of his psychiatrist, Dr. Achutha Reddy, at his office in Carriage Parkway near Central and Edgemoor.   Dr. Reddy was found behind his office with a number of stab wounds.

Dutt will be eligible for parole in 25 years, with credit for time served.   Prosecutors and defense attorneys asked that he serve his sentence at the Larned State Hospital, but that will be decided by the Kansas Department of Corrections.
