A man in a wheelchair was killed while crossing a street in northeast Wichita late Monday night.
Wichita police were called to the area around 8 p.m. , and found the man was hit by a driver headed north. Officers were able to speak with the driver.
Police Officer Charley Davidson said a 71-year-old man was crossing Hillside near 19th Street North, and he was crossing from west to east in a crosswalk where signals had not been activated. The 27-year-old driver did not see the victim and struck him.
EMS personnel and fire rescue crews tried life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene. His name has not been released.
Police are still investigating and information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
