The school board in Arkansas City has voted to start its Thanksgiving break early because of higher numbers of COVID-19 cases in the district.

There will be no classes on Friday, November 19th, and next Monday and Tuesday, November 22nd and 23rd, which have been declared as wellness days.   They will be paid days for all administrators, faculty and staff members, except those working at the district office.   The district buildings will be closed November 24th through the 26th as planned for the Thanksgiving break.

The Arkansas City school district has reported close to 90 active COVID-19 cases and more than 400 students and staff have been in quarantine.   Two elementary schools went to remote learning this week.

Classes are expected to be back in session on Monday, November 29th.
