One person has died following a 2-alarm fire at an apartment complex Friday evening.

Crews were dispatched to the Broadmoor at Chelsea apartment complex near 21st Street North and Rock in northeast Wichita.

The fire department said a resident made the emergency call. When crews arrived, they pulled an unresponsive woman from a 2nd story unit in the 12-unit complex. Crews performed CPR on the scene and then transported her to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. Her name has not been released.

Four of the building’s units are a total loss, while the remaining units sustained substantial water and smoke damage. Damage to the complex was estimated to be upwards of $350,000 in total. Every resident of the complex was displaced.

Officials are still investigating what caused the fire, but they did say that it appears to be accidental.
