Man arrested for Wichita standoff faces charges for earlier incidents

A man who was arrested after a four-hour standoff in Wichita on Monday has been charged in connection with two other incidents earlier this year.

58-year-old AC Dwayne Gibson of Goddard has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and interference with law enforcement.  Both charges are misdemeanors, and they are related to an incident last May involving a Sedgwick County sheriff’s sergeant.

Gibson is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and misdemeanor charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, no proof of insurance and having an expired tag.   This is from an incident last April involving Wichita police.

Bond was set at $75,000 and a bench trial on these charges has been scheduled for December 16th.

Gibson was arrested Monday after an incident at a U-Haul store in the 1500 block of South Broadway.  Police said Gibson was driving a car back and forth in the parking lot as officers tried to talk him into surrendering.   He finally got out of the truck and was taken into custody.  Police are still investigating and they have not yet presented information to the District Attorney’s Office for charges related to the standoff.
