A cold front and a new winter storm system will bring rain and snow to south central and eastern areas of Kansas to start the weekend.
The Wichita area expects rain Friday evening, changing to light snow overnight. There will be light to moderate snow across eastern Kansas on Saturday, with a trace to an inch expected along I-135. Areas east of I-135 will get one to two inches, and northeast Kansas could get two to four inches or more of accumulating snow.
Strong winds up to 40 mph will create low wind chills and blowing snow conditions, and driving is expected to be difficult on Saturday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for eastern Kansas from midnight Friday night to 6 p.m. Saturday. It includes Saline, McPherson, Harvey, Sedgwick and Sumner counties, extending into Chase, Marion, Butler and Cowley counties and into eastern Kansas.
