Evergy Says Crews are Ready Ahead of Winter Storm

Evergy says that their crews are ready to respond if the winter storm expected to move through Kansas and Missouri causes power outages.

Forecasts in the Evergy service area calls for heavy snow and freezing rain Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

The company said in a press release Tuesday that additional resources have been deployed at its power plants to be prepared for a potential increase in energy demand, saying that crews will begin restoring power as soon as conditions are safe.

Winter Storm Uri close to one year ago created widespread challenges as generation sources became limited, creating high demand for electricity. Evergy said that while they had enough generation to meet customer demand, emergency interruptions were still required to maintain regional grid balance and stability.

Evergy senior vice president president Chuck Caisley said, “…Uri was an unusual event that required controlled power interruptions that were the first in more than 80 years…the weather this week looks more like a typical winter storm that we’ve all experienced many times before.”

Customers who experience an outage can report it at www.Evergy.com or call 1-800-LIGHT-KS. Outage information is at www.Evergy.com/outages.
