The Wichita school district has canceled classes for Wednesday because of the approaching winter storm, with expected snowfall amounts ranging from 5 to 9 inches.
All schools and non-attendance centers (AMAC, SSC, IST, Dunbar and ISC) will be closed. This includes cancellation of all after-school activities and practices.
The only employees expected to report to work are:
- Select employees as designated by the superintendent. Those employees will be contacted directly.
- Select School Service Center dispatch and road security.
Classes Wednesday canceled at Wichita State University, though WSU Tech will hold virtual classes (Campus will be closed).
The Wichita Independent School has also canceled classes for Wednesday.
TOP early learning centers will be closed at all three locations on Wednesday.
Honey Tree and Branches Academy will be closed Wednesday.
Derby Public Schools will not be in session on Wednesday. This includes Latchkey, other extracurricular activities/practices and special events that may have been scheduled. Cooper Elementary’s Ribbon Cutting has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 10 at 1PM.
Andover, USD 385, will be closed on Wednesday. There will be no school, practices or Covid testing. After-school activities for Tuesday were still on as scheduled.
Schools will also be closed Wednesday in Mulvane, USD 263; and Kingman-Norwich, USD 331.
Other closings include Maize, USD 266, and Valley Center, USD 262; Haysville, USD 261, Augusta, USD 402;
Newton, USD 373 has cancelled classes for Wednesday. St. Mary Catholic Schools will be closed, and NRC Clubhouse/Latchkey is also closed.
Lyons, USD 405 will be closed Wednesday, with a two-hour delay planned for Thursday. There will be no morning pre-school on Thursday.
Circle, USD 375 will have no school Wednesday.
Centre, USD 397 will not have classes on Wednesday.
Conway Springs, USD 356, will be closed Wednesday.
El Dorado, USD 490, will not have classes Wednesday.
USD 487, Herington, will also be closed.
Remington-Whitewater schools, USD 206 will be closed Wednesday.
West Elk, USD 282, will be closed, with no activities.
Arkansas City, USD 470, will be closed Wednesday.
Winfield, USD 465 will be closed Wednesday.
There will be no classes Wednesday for Inman, USD 448

OTHER CLOSINGS
Newman University will close its main campus on Wednesday.
Starkey, Incorporated will close its main centers on Wednesday. Wichita Public Library locations will be closed, and the Sedgwick County Zoo will also be closed.
KU School of Medicine-Wichita will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 2 and Thursday, Feb. 3 due to the potential of inclement weather. The on-campus clinics, KU Wichita Internal Medicine Midtown, KU Wichita Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and KU Wichita Functional Medicine, will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 2.
The Workforce Centers of South Central Kansas will be closed for in-person appointments and walk-in services on Wednesday. This affects the Wichita, Butler and Sumner Workforce Centers.
