National Hockey League contest to be played in Wichita

INTRUST Bank Arena officials announced Monday that a National Hockey League game will be played in Wichita in the fall.  It will be the first time an NHL game has been played in Wichita.

The St. Louis Blues will play the Arizona Coyotes in a pre-season contest called the Frozen Face-Off.  It will be played Saturday, September 24th.   At a news conference Monday morning at the Arena, Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong spoke in a video message saying the team is excited about bringing NHL hockey to Wichita.

Arena general manager A.J. Boleski said there will be improvements to the hockey playing area and surface to meet NHL standards.   New glass will be installed surrounding the rink and dasher boards with new technology will provide added safety.   Boleski said the improvements will be completed in time for the NHL game and the next season for the Wichita Thunder hockey team.

Sedgwick County Commission chairman David Dennis thanked the taxpayers for their decision to build the INTRUST Bank Arena, and said events like this are the reason the arena was constructed.

Tickets for the Frozen Face-Off will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 22nd through Select-A-Seat.  Tickets can be ordered by phone at 855-755-SEAT (7328), or through selectaseat.com or by going to the box office at the arena.
