Sedgwick County commissioners have approved the selection of a new president and CEO for the Sedgwick County Zoo.
The Sedgwick County Zoological Society recommended deputy director Scott Newland for the position. He has been with the Zoo for 22 years and has served as the Curator of Birds and as a zookeeper in the bird department. Newland told commissioners he’s excited about leading the Zoo into the next chapter.
Newland replaces Dr. Jeff Ettling, who resigned in February to become the president and CEO for the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. Newland worked with Dr. Ettling in carrying out the first phase of the Zoo’s strategic master plan. The Zoo recently opened the new Stingray Cove, which attracted over 4,000 visitors for its first weekend.
