Sedgwick County commissioners have voted unanimously to end the disaster declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first case of COVID-19 was reported in the county in March of 2020, and a disaster declaration was issued through May, then commissioners voted in May to extend the declaration until action was taken to rescind it.   The declaration has been in place for 763 days.

The county’s emergency management director, Julie Stimson, said the situation has moved from an emergency to a recovery response.   She said the county has testing and vaccination efforts in the community to continue the response efforts.

April 28th will be the last day of operation for the county’s COVID-19 testing site at 4115 East Harry.   On Monday, May 2nd, no-cost sampling and testing will be provided for uninsured persons only at the Health Department clinic at 2716 West Central.   Appointments can be made starting April 25th by calling 316-660-7300.

Saturday, April 30th will be the last day for the community vaccination clinic at the former library building in downtown Wichita at 223 South Main.   The county will have mobile vaccination clinics at different locations for the rest of the year.  More information is available at the county’s web site at www.sedgwickcounty.org
