Attorney General asks for approval of state legislative maps

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has filed a petition with the state supreme court to ask for approval of the newly-redrawn legislative district maps.

Lawmakers have drawn boundaries for the 40 Senate districts and 125 House districts, based on population changes in the 2020 Census.   The maps were approved by lawmakers and Governor Laura Kelly signed a bill on April 15th to create the new boundaries.

Schmidt said the new boundaries appear to satisfy all legal requirements under the Kansas Constitution.  He is asking the Supreme Court to approve the new boundaries as quickly as possible so candidate filing for this year’s elections can move forward.
