Kansas Senate Passes Measure to Gradually Reduce Food Sales Tax

After the Kansas House on Tuesday rejected bringing the “Axe the Food Tax” measure out of committee and onto the floor, the Senate on Wednesday voted unanimously to gradually reduce it.

The plan would drop the food sales tax down to 0% by 2025. If passed, the bill would lower Kansas’ sales tax on food from its current level of 6.5% to 4% in January 2023, then down to 2% in January of 2024 before being eliminated the following year.

The bill now moves to the House for final approval.
