Severe thunderstorms moved through south central Kansas Tuesday evening, bringing large hail to Butler County and a storm with a wall cloud to Cowley County, although no confirmed tornado was reported.

A storm with a rotating wall cloud was reported near Geuda Springs around 5:30 p.m. triggering a tornado warning for Sumner and Cowley counties. The storm moved east and moved north of Arkansas City.  There were no confirmed reports of a tornado with the storm.

Another storm developed in southern Sumner County and moved east, and radar indicated rotation in the storm around 7:45 p.m. leading to a second tornado warning for southern Cowley County.   There was a report of a brief tornado near Dexter, but no damage was reported.

Two separate storms brought large hail to the area, with tennis ball sized hail reported near Belle Plaine in Sumner County.  One storm produced golf ball to tennis ball sized hail in the El Dorado area, and a second storm brought ping pong ball sized hail near Towanda.

A storm moved through the Wichita area around 7:30 p.m. bringing reports of golf ball sized hail along with heavy rain to the west side of the city.

A flash flood warning was issued for Kingman, Sedgwick and Butler counties as heavy rains caused street flooding and flooding in low-lying areas.   Emergency crews in Wichita were called to a number of reports of flooded vehicles and stranded motorists late Tuesday night.

The severe weather threat will diminish on Wednesday, but more rain is expected and that will create flooding concerns for low-lying areas.  A flood watch is in effect through Wednesday evening for south central and southeast Kansas.
