Wichita Park and Recreation staff have been working to clean up extensive damage that was discovered at the McAfee swimming pool on Tuesday. The pool was closed for the day so staff could work to make the pool safe.
City Council member Brandon Johnson expressed disappointment during a council meeting and suggested that security cameras might be needed at parks and pools to prevent this from happening in the future. He said there has been vandalism at Aley Park and Edgemoor Park in recent weeks. Council member Jeff Blubaugh also voiced frustration with the damage, saying the city has a short window for operating the pools.
The city’s Park and Recreation department is urging anyone with information on the vandalism to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
