A part-time police officer in southern Kansas shot himself during a confrontation with Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents on Monday.

The KBI said its agents and the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team went to a home in Macksville to carry out a search warrant for 41-year-old Michael Lee, a city employee who served as a part-time police officer.   Lee locked himself in his home and refused to comply with orders to come out.   Around 6:35 p.m., Lee stepped into the doorway with a gun in hand, and he shot himself as officers tried to subdue him.

The KBI is still investigating the incident.   The agency said Lee was under investigation for the crime of sexual exploitation of a child.
