Wichita police are highlighting the case of a missing girl from 2001.

Monday, September 5, marked 21 years since 4-year-old Jaquilla Scales went missing. She had last been seen in bed, and was found to be missing around 3 a.m., from her home near 13th and Hillside.

Jaquilla was last known to be wearing a knee-length floral nightshirt. She had a scar on her upper right leg, a brown birthmark on her face, and her upper teeth were damaged at the time she disappeared.

With this happening so close to September 11, Jaquilla’s disappearance was largely overshadowed by the Word Trade Center attacks. The Wichita Police Department says they have not forgotten Jaquilla, and are still looking for answers as to what happened to her.

Photos have been provided that show Jaquilla close to the time she disappeared, along with a rendering of what she may look like today. She would be 25-years-old.

Anyone with any information is asked to call investigators at 316-268-4379 or email the Cold Case Unit at coldcase@wichita.gov. Anonymous information can also be left with Crime Stoppers by calling 316-267-2111
