The Kansas State Fair is beginning its 2022 edition in Hutchinson, with ten days of music, carnival rides, livestock events, food and fun.

The fair’s general manager, Brian Schulz, says improvements have been made to facilities on the fairgrounds with remodeling for the Expo Center and the Lake Talbott Stage. He said trolleys and trams will take people around the fairgrounds.

Schulz said a high dive team called the Flying Fools will perform several times a day at Gottschalk Park, and a nine-foot robot named Max Power will tour the grounds with his friend Nitro.  The Strolling Piano will also be back on the fairgrounds.

For the first time, people will be able to walk around the fairgrounds while carrying an alcoholic beverage, thanks to a law approved by the Kansas Legislature.  Schulz said IDs will be checked and wrist bands will be issued, and the beverages will be limited in size outside the beer gardens.  Alcohol will not be allowed in the Pride of Kansas building, the Centennial 4-H Building, the Domestic Arts building, the Oz Gallery, the Education Center and the Administration Building.

People who buy tickets for the grandstand shows will also get admission to the fairgrounds.   Schulz says people will need to hang onto those tickets, because they will be scanned twice for gate admission and for admission to the show.

The Fair runs through September 18th.
