The Wichita Police Department announced Friday that former WPD Captain Wendell Nicholson was charged with 8 counts of computer crimes.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Nicholson was with the department of nearly 30 years before retiring on March 23rd.

No further details have been released. Officials with the Wichita Police Department and the City of Wichita said that no comments will be issued, as it is a pending legal matter.

According to the Sedgwick County D.A.’s Office, Nichols is alleged to have “Damaged, modified, altered, destroyed, copied, disclosed, or took possession of a computer, computer system, computer network or other property.”  This was said to include the sharing of confidential records and documents such as WPD DEA KNR reports, gang bulletins, WPD morning reports, WPD shooting reviews, emails, body cam footage, and more.
