UPDATE:  Kansas lawmakers have voted to override two of Governor Laura Kelly’s vetoes on three abortion-related bills. The Kansas House voted Wednesday to override the vetoes on Wednesday and the issues then went to the Senate.

One bill is the Born Alive Infant Protection Act that requires health care providers to be present at an attempted abortion, and to provide health care if needed.  The Kansas Senate later voted to override the veto on this bill, so it will become law.

The second bill prevents abortion providers from buying health insurance from the state’s health care stabilizaton fund.

The third bill requires abortion providers to notify patients that a medication abortion could be reversable.  The Kansas Senate voted Thursday to override that veto, so the requirement will become law.

Governor Kelly has vetoed 16 bills during this legislative session, and Senate President Ty Masterson was expecting lawmakers to be successful in overriding 80 percent of the vetoes.

Lawmakers are working to finish their 2023 session on Friday.
