The Drinking Water Advisory for Wellington has been lifted, but it remains in place for the City of Mayfield and Sumner County Rural Water Districts 1, 2 and 3.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the initial advisory because of levels of cyanotoxin in the water supply, which were attributed to an algae bloom. Latest tests show Wellington’s water supply has cyanotoxin levels below the EPA’s advisory levels.

It may take a few more days to verify safe levels for Mayfield and Sumner County Rural Water Districts 1, 2 and 3. Until then, infants and kids under 6-years-old should not drink the tapwater, which includes using it for food preparation. Adults and kids over 6 should not have any problems.

In this case, boiling the water does not make it safe.
