A 41-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested Wednesday after a chase and crash that injured two people, including a Wichita Police Officer.

Around 7:10 a.m. on August 24th, police were conducting a welfare check in the 600 block of W. 30th St. St. They had received a report of two people slumped over in a truck. A WPD Traffic Motor Officer arrived on scene to talk with the driver. The driver then accelerated and drove away, hitting the officer and running over the officer’s legs.

Additional officer pursued the track, which crash into a minivan at 15th and Meridian before coming to a stop. The 41-year-old male suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody. The 27-year-old woman was arrested in the truck.

A 51-year-old woman in the minivan was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital.

The male suspect now awaits formal charges of Aggravated Battery, Fail to Stop at an Accident, Flee or Elude LEO, Driving While Suspended, in addition to other outstanding warrants in Sedgwick County.

The 27-year-old female faces charges of Possession of Narcotics, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribute Controlled Substance, Attempted possession of a Hallucinogenic Drug, and a Probation Violation, stemming from a separate aggravated battery investigation.

The incident is still under investigation.
