A Wichita man is facing charges for a chase that ended with a crash that left a police officer and another driver injured.

41-year-old Nicholas Shugart appeared in court on charges of battery against a law enforcement officer, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia for use, driving under the influence and driving while his license was suspended or canceled.   Bond was set at $150,000.

The chase happened in west Wichita on August 24th.   Officers were called to check the welfare of two people in a truck near 31st Street South and McLean.  As an officer approached, the truck sped away and ran over the officer’s leg.   The truck later crashed into a minivan near 15th and Meridian.   The 51-year-old woman driving the minivan was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and the police officer also went to a hospital for treatment.
