Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has asked for a Presidential disaster declaration for 43 counties for significant damage that was caused by several rounds of severe thunderstorms over the summer.
The governor sent a letter to President Biden through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ask for the declaration. It covers the period from June 27th through August 8th for storms that brought heavy rains and flooding, damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes to a number of communities. The declaration would provide assistance in repairing vital infrastructure.
The counties in the request include Barton, Rice, McPherson, Sumner and Cowley counties in central and south central Kansas.
