Friends University in Wichita will have a ceremony Thursday to celebrate its 125th anniversary.

The university was officially founded in 1898 by St. Louis businessman James M. Davis and it opened its doors in September of that year.

A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. in the Alumni Auditorium in the Davis Administration Building.   A new timeline wall will be unveiled and there will also be the release of a commemorative documentary, along with campus tours.

Friends University president Dr. Amy Bragg Carey said in a press release that it’s an honor to be a part of the school’s history and “continue to pursue the mission that our founder James M. Davis set forth as a Quaker university to give to the community and the world graduates that are excellent in their field of study, ethical leaders and problem solvers, people we expect will make a positive difference in our community.”
