Officials with the Kansas City Royals baseball team said Wednesday they will not have a site selected by the end of this month for a proposed new stadium. The team says it is continuing to meet with officials in Jackson and Clay counties in Missouri as they continue the selection process.
The Royals announced in July that they would have a proposed site to reveal in late September. In a statement Wednesday on social media, the team said the site selection process is moving thoughtfully and directly, and they have been encouraged by the discussions with Jackson and Clay County leaders.
The team is working to have a proposal ready for voters to decide in April, 2024. The statement said that team officials are confident that a world-class ballpark and surrounding district for entertainment, retail and housing will build on the region’s momentum and further establish Kansas City as a top-tier destination for tourists.
