A seven-year-old girl was hit in the arm by a stray arrow during recess Tuesday morning at an elementary school in McPherson.

Police said the first-grade student was hit outside Roosevelt Elementary School around 9:45 a.m.   She was taken to a Wichita hospital and she is expected to make a full recovery.

McPherson police arrested a 31-year-old man who had contacted them and said he was target shooting.   He was booked into the McPherson County jail for aggravated battery and aggravated child endangerment.

The school district had a crisis team at the school Tuesday and the team will be available again Wednesday to provide counseling and support to students and staff.
