A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a Wichita man to 25 years to life for the shooting death of a teenage boy in 2021.

The sentence was given Thursday to 22-year-old Tyler Kelly, and he will have to serve 25 years plus 56 months before being considered for parole.   Kelly was convicted in July of first degree murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.

Police found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound when they were sent to a burglary-in-progress call at a home in the 2600 block of North Piatt on July 17th, 2021.  The teen, identified as Joseph Florence, died later at a hospital.    Police said the shooting was the result of an argument.
