After being suspended over a raid on a local newspaper in August, Marion police chief Gideon Cody has turned in his resignation.
The resignation takes effect immediately. Cody had been under fire since an August 11th raid on the Marion County Record and the home of newspaper owner Eric Meyer. Officers seized computers, cellphones and other materials, and the raid drew criticism from press organizations and press freedom groups across the U.S. and around the world.
Marion police officer Zach Hudlin will lead the police department on an interim basis.
