The Andover Public Library has suspended its social media until further notice because of online threats that were made over certain books.

The threats were related to a display of titles during Banned Books Week, and one book in particular that involved a young person and gender identity.  The American Library Association said libraries across the country have been confronting attempts to censor books and other materials, including books about people of color and LGBTQ issues.

In a statement on Facebook, Andover Library Director Tom Taylor said “The Andover Public Library supports the free and open exchange of information and viewpoints.  The Library does not tolerate threats against the Library building, the Library collections and especially Library Staff.”    Taylor told our news partners at KWCH that the Andover Library has received a lot of support from the community and from other libraries across Kansas.
