Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Attorney General Kris Kobach released a joint statement Monday in response to the weekend attacks against Israel by the terrorist group Hamas.

The statement condemns the acts of terrorism and extend sympathies to the Israeli people.  The statement said law enforcement, emergency management and homeland security officials are closely watching the conflict and guarding against any potential threats to the safety of Jewish communities in Kansas.

Kobach said he asked that Memorial Hall in Topeka be lit in blue and white, in a show of solidarity with Israel.   His office said he sent a letter to Governor Kelly and other state officials, asking for similar lighting for the Capitol and other state buildings.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall said his office is offering assistance to any Kansan in Israel, to help them safely evacuate to a neighboring country or the U.S.   The Senator’s office has already helped four Americans move to neighboring countries.   Marshall strongly condemned the attacks in a press release.  Any Kansans with family or loved ones in Israel is asked to email EvacHelp@marshall.senate.gov or call (785) 829-9000.
