Wichita police believe they have identified the gunman involved in a fatal shooting early Sunday at an east side club, and they are asking for help from the public in finding him.
Officers released a surveillance photo of the gunman, who was identified as 33-year-old Terrence J. Johnson of Wichita. Police lieutenant Aaron Moses said Johnson was arrested about half an hour after the shooting for a domestic violence incident in the 1700 block of North Pinecrest. Johnson was booked for a misdemeanor charge and later released, and it was not known at that time that he was the suspect in the club shooting.
Moses said the shooting happened outside the Onyx night club in the 10,000 block of East Kellogg around 1 a.m. Sunday. The victim, 23-year-old Jaylon Pete of Wichita, died at a hospital from several gunshot wounds. Two men, ages 24 and 26, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Moses said there was a disturbance inside the club, then Johnson went out side and obtained a gun, but he was not allowed back into the club. Officers were watching the club when they heard gunshots in the parking lot, then they found the three victims of the shooting.
Anyone with information on Johnson is urged to call 911.
