The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said Wichita police officers were sent to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 4200 block of East Gilbert, in a neighborhood northeast of the intersection of Lincoln and Oliver.  The officers were informed that a man involved in the disturbance was known to carry guns.

Officers found the man standing in the street and they learned that he had been making suicidal statements.   Officers wanted to search the man for weapons, but he did not cooperate and he pulled a handgun, holding it down to his side.  Police said he refused commands to drop the gun, then he raised the gun and pointed it toward one of the officers.  Another officer fired four times, with one shot hitting the man.  He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Daniel Stowe of Wichita.  The Sheriff’s Office will investigate the shooting, and its investigators recovered a loaded Glock 27 at the scene.   Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office when the investigation is complete.
