Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said Tuesday that the state has reached another significant milestone in economic development. She said since 2019, Kansas has attracted more than $18 billion in private sector investment, resulting in over 1,000 new economic development projects and more than 65,000 jobs created or retained.

Kelly said Kansas had the second strongest growth in real Gross Domestic Product in the country, at 7.4 percent.  That’s according to numbers released last week from the U.S. Department of Commerce and its Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The governor said some of the companies driving the growth through expansion or relocation include Amazon, FedEx, Goodyear, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Honeywell, Rubbermaid, Panasonic, Textron Aviation, Tyson Meats and Walmart.

The governor said projects have been announced in 85 of the state’s 105 counties so far.  She said the state’s economic development plan known as the Kansas Framework for Growth, is guiding the state commerce department as it seeks new opportunities.
