The Ascension Via Christi hospitals in Wichita have implemented restrictions on visitors in order to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses that have been reported in the community.

Families and friends of patients are asked not to make in-person visits to the hospitals if they have had COVID-19 in the past ten days or if they have cold or flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath, nasal congestion or a sore throat.

Visitors must be at least 12 years of age or older, except for the NewLife Center at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph, where the minimum age for visitors is now 18.

If there are special circumstances, patients and families should talk to their nurse, who will check with the healthcare team to determine appropriate visitation that is safe for everyone.

Visitors are also reminded to wash their hands and use an alcohol-based hand rub when entering and leaving a patient’s room.
