Kansas health officials have lifted the boil water advisory for the city of Mayfield, in Sumner County, but it remains in effect for Sumner County rural water districts 1, 2 and 3.
The advisory was lifted earlier for the city of Wellington. It was put into effect after an equipment problem caused high turbidity in the distribution system. Failure to maintain low turbidity may put the system at risk for bacterial or parasitic contamination. Testing found no evidence of contamination for Wellington or Mayfield.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is still waiting on test results for the rural water districts. Residents are urged to boil water for one minute before drinking it or using it for food preparation.
