A police officer shot and killed an armed man in a confrontation Saturday night in Leavenworth.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting. Officers were called to a home around 10 p.m. and found a 44-year-old man armed with a knife in the front yard. Officers ordered him to drop the knife, but he charged toward an officer. That officer fired several shots, striking the man. The man died later at a Leavenworth hospital. His name has not been released.
The KBI will present a report to the Leavenworth County Attorney for review when its investigation is complete.
