The Kansas Highway Patrol said a woman from Maize was killed Wednesday when her car hit a semi that had stopped on the shoulder of K-96 near Haven.

Troopers said the semi had stopped around noon to help a stranded motorist on K-96 near Arlington Road, and the semi was partially blocking a westbound driving lane.  The semi was then hit from behind by an SUV, which spun around and came to rest on the right shoulder.

The driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Jaedyn Douglas of Maize, was dead at the scene.   An unidentified juvenile was in the SUV but the KHP did not release any other information.

A pedestrian, a 21-year-old Pretty Prairie man, was taken to a Hutchinson hospital with minor injuries.
