Sedgwick County Commissioners have chosen their leaders for the new year.

4th District Commissioner Ryan Baty will serve as the commission chairman for 2024, and 2nd District Commissioner Sarah Lopez will be the chair pro tem.

Baty said he’s going to work to continue the momentum from the past year, and he sees significant opportunities and challenges in the new year.  He says partnership and collaboration will continue with Wichita and the other cities in the county.   Lopez said there is a new generation of leaders who want to work for the people and not for partisan politics, and she feels that is reflected in the leadership for Wichita and Sedgwick County for 2024.

1st District Commissioner Pete Meitzner served as chairman during 2023 and 5th District Commissioner Jim Howell was the chair pro tem.   Meitzner presented the annual Chairman’s Award for 2023 to the Greater Wichita Partnership.   Meitzner said the organization has worked with public and private agencies to promote the local workforce, attract new companies and cultivate Sedgwick County’s reputation as a world-class business destination.   He said the GWP fostered 67 new projects in at least eight different industries during the past year.
