An arctic front began moving into Kansas on Thursday bringing snow, high winds and another round of bitter cold temperatures.

The system will bring light snow and flurries to northern Kansas, mainly north of Interstate 70.    Little to no accumulation is expected.

The front has dropped temperatures into single digits for south central Kansas with wind chills of -5 to -20 for Friday and Saturday mornings.  A wind chill advisory will be in effect for Reno, Harvey, McPherson, Butler, Marion and Chase counties for Friday morning and again Friday night into Saturday.

There have been wind gusts of over 50 miles an hour in western Kansas, creating blowing snow conditions.  The Kansas Highway Patrol said parts of I-70 were closed because of low visibility, blowing snow and crashes.   The westbound lanes were closed from Salina to Oakley and from Goodland west to the Colorado line, and the eastbound lanes were closed between Hays and Oakley.   Motorists were advised to delay travel through the area until conditions improve.   The interstate was reopened later in the day.

Because of the cold temperatures and wind chills, several school districts had a two-hour delay for Friday.   They include USD 397 Centre, USD 408 Marion, USD 410 Hillsboro, USD 411 Goessel, and USD 419 Canton-Galva.

High temperatures on Friday will be in the teens and low 20s.

Temperatures will warm into the 30s and 40s Sunday into the next week.
