A middle school teacher in Salina has been arrested in connection with a criminal investigation by police in Newton.
A teacher at Lakewood Middle School in Salina was taken into custody when detectives from Newton and Salina went to the school to serve a search warrant on the teacher’s phone. Police said there was a struggle over the phone, and the lithium battery was punctured, causing a fire. That set off alarms in the school and the building was evacuated.
The teacher was taken to the Saline County Jail. No other information has been released at this time by Newton or Salina police on the investigation.
