Two branch locations for the Wichita Public Library are going to be open longer hours, starting this month.   The new hours are for the Maya Angelou branch at 3051 East 21st, and the Dr. Ronald W. Walters Branch at 4195 East Harry.

The Angelou branch will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and it will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The Walters branch will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It will be closed Sundays.

The new schedule is part of a program option in the city’s budget that was approved by the City Council.  The option allows for one new full-time professional librarian position at both branches to support building community partnerships, programming, increased technology assistance, and support for lifelong learning opportunities. Part of the program option included slightly increasing operating hours at both locations to be open when residents need to use the library.
