Wichita police are continuing their investigation of a late-night high-speed crash that happened late Tuesday at an east side intersection.
Police officer Kris Gupilan said a Sedgwick County deputy was on a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. at 13th and Rock Road, when he saw a red Ford Mustang going south at high speed. A Wichita officer heard the deputy’s report to dispatchers, and he clocked the Mustang’s speed at 106 miles an hour.
The car hit a concrete barrier at Kellogg, and the 22-year-old driver was critically injured. His name has not been released. Gupilan said the driver’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police said the crash is a reminder of the consequences of speeding. The WPD traffic section has safety tips on the police department Facebook page every Tuesday.
