Kansas officials issued statements in response to the shooting incident Wednesday that left at least one person dead and 22 injured after a celebration event for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly had a statement on social media:

Today, a day that should have been a celebration of the Chiefs’ remarkable skill and success, has turned into a day of mourning. This senseless act of violence goes against everything Kansas City and the Chiefs Kingdom stand for.

Kansas Senator Jerry Moran also issued a response:

Praying for all those involved. Thank you to our brave law enforcement and first responders for acting quickly.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall attended the rally, and said he and his team were able to leave safely:

Today, I joined thousands of Chiefs fans who came together to celebrate a great season and honor the Super Bowl victory which has brought so much joy to our state. I am devastated and angered by the senseless act of violence that turned a day of celebration for our community into a complete tragedy.  During this chaos, our team thankfully made it to shelter safely. My heart breaks for those who were a victim of this needless violence. I am praying for everyone and the entire KC community. God bless the local law enforcement and first responders who quickly rushed to the scene and responded to this situation.
