Wichita leaders express condolences to Kansas City

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu and the Wichita Police Department have expressed condolences to the community of Kansas City, Missouri after Wednesday’s shooting incident at Union Station.

Mayor Wu commended the efforts of Maize residents Trey and Casey Filter, who helped tackle one of the suspects in the shooting.  They joined Paul Contreras of Bellevue, Nebraska in subduing a gunman who was running from the scene, and the capture was shown on a number of videos posted on social media.

Wichita police lieutenant Aaron Moses said the department regularly trains for shooting incidents like the one in Kansas City, and they also work with community partners to make sure safety is a priority at major events.   He said Kansas City has not requested assistance from the Wichita Police Department at this time, but if a request is made the department will look at staffing and “do what we can to help Kansas City.”
